Tine Weeders

The Tine Weeder is a great tool for Market Farmers operating on 30'' bed systems. The Tine Weeder, manufactured by Two Bad Cats LLC of Vermont, is also referred to as a "blind weeder." Its primary purpose is to proactively suppress weeds while the crop is in the "white thread" stage. Two rows of spring tines, offset by 1.5'' in between each tine, will go around the established plants without damaging them. It may take two passes for optimum weed control. This procedure should be done about twice per week in-season.

Weighing just 7 lbs, 4 oz, the 30'' Tine Weeder is easy to use and perfect for high tunnels. The padded handle can be offset so the operator can work from the side, much like a BCS two-wheel tractor!

Wire Weeders

The Wire Weeder is a lightweight and easy-to-handle tool, manufactured by Two Bat Cats LLC of Vermont. We offer 60'' and 73'' lengths for optimal operator comfort.

A thin wire pulls roots of small weeds in the top layer of soil with minimal disturbance. In soft soils, this tool can remove larger, more established weeds. Perhaps best of all, it never needs sharpening!

The tool comes standard with a 2-flat wire design, which is beneficial because the extra flats pull the wire stronger, pulling out bigger weeds. Two other wire shapes can be purchased separately: Flat wire and 1-Flat. All of the wire designs can be purchased separately.

Other Features:

  • Foam comfort grip on handle
  • 5" wide thin spring wire head
  • 10" aluminum handle
  • Foam comfort grip over handle
  • Tool Weight: 11 lbs, 7 oz

Broadfork

The Broadfork is one of the handiest tools for the Market Farm! With a working width of 24'', the Broadfork loosens soil up to 12'' deep without inverting or mixing soil layers. It's both effective and the most economical way to achieve deep aeration while maintaining soil structure.

BONUS! The Broadfork is FREE for purchasers of the BCS Power Harrow!

Its simple and ergonomic design is comfortable to use, weighing only 12 pounds. The solid ash handles are fixed to the high carbon steel zinc plated tines via four bolts and nuts (two on each handle).

From Jean-Martin Fortier, author of The Market Gardener:

"First, not all broadforks are created equal. Over the years, I’ve personally tried about 20 different models and I can tell you that design really matters. You should aim to get one that is made and used for professional purposes, preferably a wooden-handled one over a heavier all-metal broadfork.

I’d rather replace a broken shaft every couple years than spend a lifetime lifting extra weight. The ergonomics of the tines also play a major role it the overall efficiency of the tool. The better broadforks have parabolic curves that simplify the rowing motion."

Manufactured by Thivierge of Quebec, Canada. Ships disassembled.
